Is your house ready for the fire season?
If the answer is “not really”, don’t stress – you’re not alone. Most people don’t think about preparing for bushfire until the first whiff of smoke, by which time it’s too late to play rakes and ladders.
Good news is, getting your home bushfire-ready doesn’t have to be stressful, expensive, or take all summer.
The Get Ready Challenge is a free, fun and totally practical way to get your home and household ready for fire season. Everything you need is included:
- Quick tasks you can tick off
- Articles, videos, how-tos and checklists
- Resources to help if you need extra support
Last year, over 900 Blue Mountains households joined in. This year we’ve added a whole new way to get access to the Challenge. You can jump straight in and start working through the Challenge at your own pace, or sign up for our ever popular guided six week email challenge.
There are two ways you can start the Challenge, choose from:
NEW Option 1: Dip in and out, right here on this website!
Many locals have told us the hardest part is knowing where to start
We’ve taken everything we know as firefighters and broken it down into a clear, logical plan of six stages. Each stage comes with videos, articles, checklists, and step-by-step guidance.
Bushfire prep with the doubt taken out
It’s not a mountain of work – just a series of small, focused actions you can chip away at. A planning chat with the family after dinner. A couple of hours in the garden on the weekend.
Do even one task and you’ve improved your home’s survival odds. Tick them all off and you’ll give your home and family the best possible chance of riding out fire season.
So put the kettle on, roll up your sleeves, and let’s get into it.
Option 2: Guided approach on a weekly basis to your email inbox
Need a bit more of a nudge? Sign up for the 6-week Email Challenge. You’ll receive six bite-sized nuggets of extra knowledge, tips and truth bombs from your friendly local brigade. In addition to the website Challenge you’ll receive:
- One email every Friday for six weeks
- Practical tasks, firefighter tips and knowledge
It’s like having a firefighter who moonlights as a personal trainer over for a coffee (no push-ups required, we promise).
Get your neighbours involved too — the more households who prepare, the safer our whole community will be.
Not sure where to start?
